Recently the Street Pastors have been working tirelessly on something very special alongside other local authorities (Police and Southern Vectis.)
This is called Newport Safe Space.
The safe space is a place where people can wait for friends, get help with returning home, receive emergency first aid treatment, get advice and support with local anti-social behaviour incidents and report concerns or worries they have around feeling unsafe on a night out. Our volunteers are hot on safeguarding so this is a big focus in our work in the local community. Making a safe space not only in our Newport Safe space but also on the streets for our residents.
Recruitment
We are actively seeking to recruit dedicated volunteers to assist with manning the Safe space alongside our current volunteers. This would be on a Saturday or Sunday from 9pm-1am so we can open our doors more regularly for our local community. We do require that you can commit to one night per month but more is warmly welcomed. Because of the nature of the environment we do require a current DBS certificate, and any training can be arranged by us. The work will be carried out in teams of two for safety.
